Maternal Newborn Nursing Expert & Registered Nurse
Superpower: Helping organizations raise babies and lactation standards.
As a Maternal Newborn Nursing expert, registered nurse, and lactation advocate, Lynn Freeland is a woman on a mission to help working moms succeed. She has worked with diverse populations in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, teaching prenatal childbirth and breastfeeding classes, giving bedside support to new mothers in the immediate postpartum period and providing outpatient lactation counseling. Lynn has been a preceptor for new nurses and students in all facets of maternal newborn care and lactation support including L&D, high risk antepartum and mother-baby settings. She worked for 5 years as a unit educator for a regional center in NJ and as a Nurse Manager for a community based hospital in NJ where she instituted new policies that promoted skin to skin care immediately after delivery and set new standards for bedside lactation support. Lynn currently works as a lactation consultant at a Baby Friendly Hospital in NJ where she provides lactation support for the NICU, mother baby and labor and delivery areas.
Lynn has been passionate about Corporate Lactation since 2011, when she attended a nursing webinar on the topic. She presented her new knowledge at a regional meeting of hospital educators and as an in-service for the perinatal education department. Lynn understands from both her own personal experience and her professional work how important it is for women to have knowledge of the breastfeeding laws, options for pumping, access to good childcare and support from workplace employers and peers. This knowledge and support is vital for a woman to achieve her breastfeeding goals.
She is the proud mother of two adult children.
