What Employers Must Know

At a bare minimum, employers must provide a nursing mother with the following:

A private place to express her breastmilk that is not a bathroom; and

N

A reasonable amount of uncompensated time to express her breastmilk, as needed, through the nursing child’s first birthday.

Some state laws extend these rights through a child’s second birthday. Some municipalities require written policies and procedures. And some legal ordinances require employers to maintain stringent record-keeping requirements.
